When not eating food, the next best thing to do is probably reading or writing about it. I’ve just had a great couple of weeks for new discoveries in both, so thought I would share them here, starting with the books.
My friend Anna has been doing some work at Penguin, where she has come across a range of cookery books I think any food lover would covet. They are being launched in two days and will be called The Great Food Series. Cookery greats from the past 400 years are included in the line-up, which is intended to cover diffferent food cultures from around the world and look at the way food can be livelihood, entertainment, status symbol and a passion. The range is also a celebration of masterful food-writing, with authors like Claudia Roden, Mary Frances Kennedy Fisher (favourite writer of W.H. Auden) and even Samuel Pepys.
